December 27, 2012

The westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near Hancock have been reopened about 5:15 p.m. following a two-vehicle accident near the 1-mile marker, a Washington County Emergency Services supervisor said.

A 2-year-old child was flown to Meritus Medical Center with “possibly serious” injuries, the supervisor said. Another person was checked for injuries, but refused further treatment, the supervisor said.

The interstate in that area has three lanes, and two of them were open as of about 5:30 p.m., the supervisor said.

The accident was reported at 4:05 p.m.

Maryland State Police is handling the investigation, and no new details were available Thursday night, a trooper at the Hagerstown barrack said.
