D. Eileen Myers, 69, of Lemasters, Pa., died unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, Md.

Born April 29, 1943, in Hagerstown, she was a daughter of the late Ernest I. and L. Doris (Bristol) Detrich.

She was a 1961 graduate of North Hagerstown High School and a 1963 graduate of Sinai Hospital Nursing Program, Baltimore, Md.

As a registered nurse, Eileen worked at various hospitals, including Sinai Hospital, Providence Hospital of Washington, D.C., and Holy Cross Hospital of Silver Spring, Md. Eileen was employed at the former Washington County Hospital of Hagerstown for more than 24 years as an operating room nurse. She retired in 1990.

Along with her husband, Eileen founded TLC Pet Lodge of Lemasters in 1991, indulging her love for animals, especially her many cats.

Eileen had a loving and generous spirit. She gave freely of her time, energy and resources. Her strong will to make a difference, combined with her open and honest heart, improved the lives of many in our community. Eileen loved holidays. For several years, she organized the Edward Parnell Ruritan haunted house and party for Halloween. She enjoyed researching family genealogy and scrapbooking.

Eileen was a charter member of Cornerstone Bible Church of Marion, Pa.

Surviving family include her loving husband, A.C. Myers, whom she married March 26, 1966. Eileen and A.C. have two beloved sons, Erick Myers of Rougemont, N.C., and Duane Myers of Lemasters. Eileen is also survived by two sisters, Violet R. and husband, Larry Rice, of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Nancy J. Detrich of Baltimore; a brother, Robert E. Detrich, DDS, and wife, Donna Detrich, of Harrisonburg, Va.; two nephews, and two nieces.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Eileen’s name to Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter Inc., 66 S. Main St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
