The Women’s Club in downtown Hagerstown has been decorated for Christmas by the Crossroads Garden Club, which is affiliated with the club.

The theme this year is “Christmas Through the Eyes of a Child.”

The decorations include dolls, Santas, old books, teddy bears, older toys and treasures displayed through the house, which is at 31 S. Prospect St.

The Women’s Club has been called “The Jewel in the Crown” of downtown Hagerstown and the decorated house includes Victorian dolls having a tea party set on a drum in the north parlor and many old stockings hung by the fireplace.

The dining room is filled with gingerbread men and a tree decorated with gingerbread men ornaments and gingerbread men cookies.

The Christmas tree on the stage in the auditorium is full of teddy bears, Santas, candy canes and many older toys, including an antique doll, keyboard, Lincoln Logs, Tinker Toys and games displayed under the tree.

Upon entering the club, visitors will find a setup of “Santa’s Last Stop” with stockings full of toys and a chair with Santa’s suit displayed.

The club’s board of directors hosts a Christmas tea for members each year. This year’s tea was held Dec. 7. Individual teddy bears dressed for Christmas were used for table decorations. Sandwiches, cookies, punch, coffee and tea were served.

For more information about the club, call 301-739-0870 weekdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The club is also available for rentals by calling the club office.
