Fort Ritchie to host fishing tournament

December 19, 2012

CASCADE — Registration for the Fort Ritchie Community Center’s second annual Bass Fishing Tournament is under way.

The tournament will consist of three heats on March 16, April 13 and May 11, and anglers will compete for more than $15,000 in possible cash prizes. Winners of each of the three heats will be invited to compete in a championship fish-off on June 22, when boat fishing will be allowed on Lake Royer for the first time in 15 years.

Fort Ritchie’s Lake Royer is a 22-acre privately owned lake that restricts fishing during all other times of the year. The lake has been open for fishing by adults just once in the last 15 years — the center’s inaugural tournament in June. Demand for that tournament was so high that the additional dates were added for the 2013 season.
Tickets cost $50 per angler per heat, and are open all to ages. Those ages 15 and younger must have a signed permission by their parent or legal guardian and adult supervision during the tournament.

An angler can sign up for one, two or all three heats.

Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three longest bass in each heat, plus a chance at a $1,000 tagged fish in each heat and a $10,000 tagged fish during the championship fish-off in June. Assorted other awards will be presented.

Funds raised will benefit the Fort Ritchie Community Center and its programming.

Anglers can register by calling 301-241-5085 or by visiting the Fort Ritchie Community Center courtesy desk during regular business hours.
