Recognition for Scouts should not have to be bought

To the editor:

As a former Boy Scout and adult Scout leader for many years, I was at first pleasantly surprised to see the Eagle Wall of Honor at Camp Sinoquipe. This highest rank in Scouting is achieved by only a few very fine young men who must design and organize a special community service project as one of their many requirements.

However, upon closer observation, I was appalled to find out that the only way to get your name on this Wall of Honor is to make a $500 donation to the Boy Scouts. These exceptional young men should not have to buy recognition.

Please share your opinions and comments with the leaders and decision makers at the Boy Scouts of America Mason-Dixon Council. The address is Mason-Dixon Council, BSA, 18600 Crestwood Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
