George Randolph Robinson Sr., 69, of Hagerstown, Md., died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.
Born Feb. 13, 1943, in Ridgeway, W.Va., he was the son of the late Douglas A. and Grace (Mash) Robinson.
He was the husband of 49 years to Seldon Marie (Harmon) Robinson of Hagerstown.
George graduated from Ramer Memorial High School, Martinsburg, W.Va., in the Class of 1961.
He was a past machine operator for Mack Trucks Inc., with more than 15 years of service. He later retired from Wonder Bread Co., Hagerstown, where he served as a driver and clerk for more than 11 years.
George was a lifetime member of Community Rescue Service, Hagerstown, where he was an award recipient and was recognized as the “First African American to Serve” on Community Rescue from 1972 to 1985.
He was a past member of Second Christian Church, Hagerstown, where he served as deacon for more than 20 years. He was currently worshipping at Asbury United Methodist Church, Shepherdstown, W.Va.
In addition to his wife, George is survived by two sons, George R. Robinson Jr. of Hagerstown and Brian L. Robinson of Waynesboro, Pa.; three daughters, Robin V. Harmon of Silver Spring, Md., Nicola Burnett of Strasburg, Va., and Angela M. Burrus of Plymouth, N.C.; four brothers, Russell Robinson, Melvin Robinson, James Robinson and Julius Robinson; four sisters, the Rev. Rose Ann Duckett, Isabelle Jackson, Mary Brown and Mildred Carter; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at noon Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, Hagerstown. His pastor, the Rev. Rudy M. Bropleh, will officiate. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
The visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 4257 Kearneysville Pike, Shepherdstown, WV 25443; or to Community Rescue Service, 110 Eastern Blvd., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
