Candlelight service set for Sunday

Van Lear Brethren in Christ Church, 10745 Van Lear Drive, will hold a candlelight service Sunday, beginning at 7 p.m.

There will be refreshments after the service. The community is invited.

Children’s Christmas play

The children’s Christmas program will present the play “Being Not So Silent Christmas” at Calvary Temple, 147 S. Conococheague St., Sunday at 10:30 a.m. The community is invited.

Free Christmas dinner to be served at church

The Shepherd’s Table, sponsored by the Williamsport Ministerium, will be open for its seventh annual Christmas dinner Tuesday, Dec. 25. Dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The dinner is free for anyone who would like to come.

The Shepherd’s Table is at Rehoboth United Methodist Church, 30 E. Salisbury Street. It will be closed Thursdays, Dec. 27 and Jan. 3. It will reopen Thursday, Jan. 10.

Polar Bear Plunge

Start off 2013 by splashing in the icy waters of the Potomac River. The community is invited to the annual Polar Bear Plunge, beginning at noon on New Year’s Day at River Bottom Park. All proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Washington County.

Last-minute shopping available at Town Hall

Looking for something special to complete your Christmas shopping? Items are still available at Williamsport Town Hall and can be purchased from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays (except for holiday closings).

The 2012 keepsake collectible ornament, fourth in the series, depicts the bandstand in Byron Memorial Park. Some ornaments from previous years can still be purchased to complete a collection. Ornaments cost $20 each.
“Bring Back the Rat” T-shirts are available in sizes small to 3X. The shirts cost $10 each.

Douglas, the C&O Canal burro, is a plush, stuffed animal. Douglas represents the mules that once towed canal boats up and down the C&O Canal. The stuffed animals cost $10 each.

Williamsport Town Hall holiday schedule set

For the Christmas holiday, Williamsport Town Hall will close at noon Friday. It will reopen at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26.

In observance of the New Year’s holiday, Town Hall will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 1.
