W.Va. woman dies in two-vehicle crash on Interstate 81

December 18, 2012

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Kearneysville, W.Va., woman died Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 near the Tabler Station Road exit south of Martinsburg, West Virginia State Police said.

Danika Guier, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene from apparent injuries she sustained in the crash, which was reported at 1:57 p.m., police said in a news release.

The other two motorists involved in the incident, Ashley French, 28, of Martinsburg, and Ann Prince, 47, of Mays Landing, N.J., were not medically transported, police said.

Guier was traveling north on I-81 when she lost control of the Hyundai Elantra she was driving and traveled off the west side of the road, according to an investigation by state police Trooper J.J. Bowman revealed.

The vehicle began to spin counterclockwise, then traveled sideways through the median and into the southbound lanes of I-81, police said.

There, a Ford Edge being driven in the left lane by French collided with the Hyundai and caused it to spin clockwise before it came to rest on the shoulder of the highway, police said.

Debris from the crash hit a Saturn sport utility vehicle operated by Prince, who also was traveling south on I-81, police said.

Police did not say whether Guier was wearing a seat belt.
