Mail Call - Dec. 18

December 17, 2012

“Anybody that gets the AARP bulletin should look at page 38. The U.S. Bureau of Census in 2011 released the household median incomes in America. That’s counting D.C. and Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is the least median income, it’s 18,660. Maryland is No. 1 in the nation, 70,004. Then we wonder why our taxes is so high. Stand by, everybody.”
— Leitersburg

“I have a complaint about the deliverymen who leave packages on the front porch. Our TV that cost $600 was delivered Friday. I was home, and he didn’t ring the bell. We found it while we were going to the mailbox. And today, (another) did the same thing. He rang the bell, but he didn’t know I was home, and he left. I just saw on channel 4 that that’s what people do, they follow these trucks and then they steal the packages. Why don’t they make people sign, and that shows that they were home?”
— Falling Waters, W.Va.

“This is to the Downsville Pike caller. I’m sick of hearing about entitlements. I’ve been working since I was 15 years old. I’m now on disability, the last two years. I put in to the system for almost 50 years. It’s not entitlement. I earned it, I put in to it. So stop using the word ‘entitlement.’ You’re entitled to work, and say what you want. I’m entitled to (collect my disability).”
— Hagerstown

“According to an AP article on Dec. 7, the value of Chinese currency compared to the dollar is increasing by 15 to 20 percent annually. The rise in overseas inflation can be contributed to U.S. free trade policies, the Federal Reserve dumping of dollars on both the domestic and foreign markets, and unrestrained spending by the Obama administration. Along with higher taxes, we will feel it.”
— Hagerstown

“I’m calling in response to the two pit bulls that were put down. I think it’s only because of the breed that the policemen had the dogs put down. If it had been any other breed that had done that, they would not have been put down. There is no way that you will ever tell me that a 3-month-old puppy, no matter if it’s a pit bull or what breed it was, was that vicious that it needed to be put down. Now mind you, I was not there when it happened, but still. This is a breed of dog that always gets a bad rap, and I think it’s a shame.”
— Washington County

“I see where the school system is closing down for winter break. That use to be called ‘Christmas break,’ before our officials caved in to the few who complained.”
— Lappans
