Gardening in Miniature — Saturday, Jan. 12, 9 to 11 a.m.; Master Gardeners Juanita Kauffman and Bob Hyatt share their knowledge and expertise in creating gardens on a small scale for “Fairy Gardens” or “Railway Gardens.” Learn proper care and maintenance of dwarf, compact, slow and low-growing, or tiny-leafed plants best suited for miniaturized landscapes, as well as information about the fast-growing hobbies.  To register, call 717-263-9226 for more information and to register. Winter Sowing — Saturday, Jan. 19, 9 to 11 a.m.; Starting plants from seed outdoors in the winter?  Learn the techniques involved with winter sowing from Master Gardener Karen Brown. Learn how to sow seeds outdoors in recycled containers during the winter months and get a head start on the growing season. To register, call 717- 263-9226.  The fee is $10.

Third annual Joint Meeting and Banquet of the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Association and the Franklin County Conservation District  — Friday, Jan. 25, at Solomon’s Lutheran Church, 4856 Wayne Road, Chambersburg, Pa. Social hour starts at 6:15 p.m., with buffet dinner served at 7 p.m. This year’s theme is “4-H Centennial: Generations Making the Best Better for 4-H and Agriculture.” Four generations of 4-H members share a brief story on how 4-H impacted their lives. Tickets cost $12.50 for adults, $6 for those ages 5 to 11 and are free for those younger than 5. Tickets are available by calling the Extension office at 717-263-9226 and the Conservation District Office at 717-264-5499. The reservation deadline is Wednesday, Jan. 16.

Strong Women Classes Forming — Another series of Strong Women Workshops are being offered. Here is the schedule:

To reach the Washington County Extension office, drive about seven miles south of Hagerstown from the I-70 exit onto Sharpsburg Pike.

The office is in the Washington County Agricultural Education Center complex.

The Franklin County, Pa., Extension office is at 181 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg.

From Hagerstown, take Interstate 81 north to the U.S. 30 east exit. Take the first road to the left, which is Franklin Farm Lane.
