Mail call - Dec. 17

December 16, 2012

“I’m calling just to say how much I enjoy Tim Rowland’s column, and especially today’s, Dec. 6, when he’s talking about sweat pants and he says ‘when Spandex is just too formal.’ The guy is a crackup. Please let him know how much we enjoy him.”
— Huyetts

“I’m calling about the Christmas tree at the lake at City Park. It’s a beautiful, beautifully shaped tree, and poorly decorated. I’ve noticed the tree in the square in Hagerstown, I’ve noticed the beautiful tree in front of our hospital, and often wondered, I wonder why the city of Hagerstown doesn’t put more time in decorating that tree. It would say a lot for the city.”
— Hagerstown

“Councilman Aleshire and Mayor Gysberts should remember that the reason they got elected was because the voters of the city were saying ‘no’ to this stadium, and that’s why they got elected, and they should keep this in mind. The stadium has to go.”
— Hagerstown

“I read with displeasure about the county restructuring positions and salaries. ... If this started over a month ago, why didn’t they make it public?”
— Hagerstown

“I see the Republicans want to raise the age for Medicare, which will increase premiums for those on Medicare, which is basically a tax increase — but no tax increases. Oh, no, that’s only on the rich, they don’t want to allow tax increases.”
— Waynesboro, Pa.

“Quoting from Will Rogers, approximately 80 years ago: ‘The whole trouble with the Republicans is their fear of an increase in income tax, especially on higher incomes.’ How appropriate a comment for today’s stalemate in Congress.”
— Williamsport
