Maryland schools were asked to create winter holiday ornaments paying tribute to men and women in uniform, veterans and their families.

Smithsburg Middle School art students in Ms. Maginnis’ class designed and created patriotic winter holiday ornaments using flags and camouflage, as well as honoring their own families who served.

Student participants were Trystin Smithwick, Isabella Statler, Anna Wilt, Lindsey Draheim, David Johnson, Joey Clem, Caleb Boswell, Michael Ashby, Eryn Blake, Jennifer West, Shane Howard, Faith Bruchey, Tim Beaton, Symantha McKenzie, Brent Mowbray, Leah Kline, Joey Owen, Caitlin Ford, Morgan Hartge, Ines Djampa and Ashley Lyons.

Finished ornaments were mailed to the office of the first lady of Maryland. Ornaments will be on display for the month of December in Annapolis at the Maryland State House.

Student artists, their families and teachers were invited to the State House on Dec. 8 for a reception.
