Mrs. Carrie A. (Calimer) Russell, 79, of 338 Geiser Ave. in Waynesboro, Pa., died Friday morning, Dec. 14, 2012, at her home. She had been battling cancer for the past nine months and had been critically ill since Monday. 

Born Dec. 31, 1932, in Washington Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George W. and Edna (Mohn) Calimer. She was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area. 

Mrs. Russell was a 1950 graduate of Washington Township High School. 

She and her husband of more than 56 years, William R. Russell Sr., were married June 9, 1956, in the Presbyterian Church of Waynesboro. They moved to their present home in 1960. 

Mrs. Russell was the head teller and secretary for First National Bank and Trust Co. in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., from October 1956 to November 1963. She was then the medical secretary and office manager for W.W. Barkley MD from January 1966 to May 1988 and Hess Medical Clinic in Shady Grove, Pa., from June 1988 until her retirement on Dec. 31, 1994. She also managed the estate of Admiral F.E. Fleck Jr., USN Retired, from 1983 to 2006.  

She has been a member of the Presbyterian Church of Waynesboro since 1957. 

She was assistant den leader of Cub Scout Troop 56 and was active with Boy Scout Troop 19. She was a member of the Westernaires Square Dance Club, Gad-Abouts Square Dance Club in Hagerstown, South Chapter AARP 2977 and National AARP. She was also a mentor at Summitview Elementary School, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a devoted grandmother. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, William R. “Turk” Russell Jr. and his wife, Renee, of Waynesboro; and her granddaughter, Holly N. Russell of Waynesboro.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Harry G. Calimer.

Services will be Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with the Rev. Christine Callaway officiating. Burial will follow in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, Rouzerville, Pa. 

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
