Doris M. Poffenberger, 80, of Myersville, Md., died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Born Jan. 18, 1932, in Kitzmiller, Md., she was the daughter of the late Leighton H. and Lillian Evans Harvey.

Doris was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, (Church Hill) in Myersville.

Doris taught various grades at Lincolnshire and Surrey elementary schools in Hagerstown, and was on staff at the Fairview Outdoor Education Center in Clear Spring. She retired after 34 years with Washington County Public Schools.

Doris was a staff member of the Keewaydin boys summer camp in Middlebury, Vt., for many years.

She enjoyed traveling, especially with Elderhostel, and loved gardening, flowers and shrubs.

Doris is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ray “Toots” Poffenberger; her sister, Marjorie Ng of Hagerstown; and brother, Robert Harvey of Kitzmiller.

She will be sadly missed by her sister-in-law, Betty Zajicek of Fort Myers, Fla., her brother-in-law, Robin Poffenberger of Hagerstown; and her nieces and nephews, with whom she enjoyed spending time.

A memorial service will be Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Myersville, with Pastor David Howell officiating.
