Hospice of Washington County staff members and volunteers placed and lighted 1,500 luminarias along the pathways of City Park on Nov. 30.
It marked the third year that Hospice and the city of Hagerstown have partnered for the City Park tree lighting event.
Hospice sells luminaria kits for a minimum donation of $5 each. For each donation, a name is read in honor of those living or in memory of those who have passed.
“This year, we read 450 names from the stage before the tree lighting festivities began,” said Cheryl Brown, development director for Hospice. “Over $4,600 was raised from this event and those funds have been earmarked to support the Camp Hope n’ Cope — a grief camp for children suffering from a loss.”
The camp has been scheduled for June.
“It is an honor and a privilege to provide this event to our community to honor and remember loved ones during this special season,” Brown said.
A complete listing of all names read can be found on the Hospice website at www.hospiceofwc.org.
