Jerome D. Martin Jr., 65, of West Water Street, Smithsburg, Md., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born Aug. 23, 1947, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Jerome D. Martin Sr. and Kathleen (Hurley) Martin.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United States Marine Corps from May 1966 to April 1969.

He was owner and operator of Mar Cal Construction Company.

He was a past council member for the town of Smithsburg, past president of Washington County Home Builders Association, served as a board member for the Habitat for Humanity of Washington County, served as vice president of the Solid Waste Advisory Board, instrumental in the Smithsburg Recycling Program, known for his exceptional woodworking skills, a member of the Barnum and Bailey Circus, an avid Redskins fan and was also known as a master gardener.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Theresa Callamari, whom he married Oct. 1, 1983; one daughter, Colleen Martin of Waynesboro, Pa.; one brother, Raymond Martin of Albuquerque, N.M.; one sister, Ellen Olp of Wheaton, Ill. and was a special friend of Bill W for 29 years.


He was preceded in death by one brother, William Martin.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, Smithsburg, with Pastor Julie Brigham officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
