Washington County BOE changes meeting schedule

The Washington County Board of Education has changed its January meeting schedule.

Rather than meeting twice that month, the board will meet at 1 p.m. on Jan. 15. The meetings previously scheduled for Jan. 8 and Jan. 22 have been canceled.

Board member Wayne Ridenour said the upcoming agenda items could be consolidated into one meeting.

The board normally meets at 1 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month, and at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month. The holidays have altered the schedule.

State championship teams recognized at meeting

More than 100 Washington County Public Schools student-athletes who were members of recent state championship teams were recognized at the Board of Education’s Dec. 11 meeting.

The board recognized members of volleyball teams from North Hagerstown High, Smithsburg High and Williamsport High; athletes from Clear Spring High’s and Hancock High’s unified tennis teams; and students from Boonsboro High’s boys’ and girls’ cross country teams.

Each student received a certificate.
