Character Counts! at Hickory Elementary

Students at Hickory Elementary School were awarded Character Counts! certificates for displaying the trait of gratitude during the month of November.

Each month, one student from each classroom is designated as Character Counts! Good Citizen of the Month.

Students are nominated by classroom teachers for demonstrating one of the six pillars of character.

The following is a list of the students selected to receive the award for the month of November: Kelli Price, Lumisa Bista, Natalie Kitchen, Autumn Thrift, Glen Creary, Logan Adkins, Elsie James, Ian Lane, Corry Nelson, Destiny Woodlon, Nicholas Minnick, Megen Shartzer, Ticcara Sumlin, Shaun Haws and Harley Warrenfeltz.

Winter concert to be held Thursday night 

Orchestra students at Hickory Elementary will participate in the fifth-grade winter concert Thursday, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Springfield Middle School.

Trains of Christmas on display Saturday

The Trains of Christmas event will be held at the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum on Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m.


The visions, sounds and snows of Christmas past and present on an “O” Gauge railroad featuring the trains of Lionel, MTH, Williams, Weaver and others will be on display along with trains for children to run, including “HO” and “O” scale model trains. 

The museum is at 300 S. Burhans Blvd. in Hagerstown.

Mrs. Claus to hold story time at mall

The last story time event for the Christmas season will be Thursday, Dec. 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Center Court at Valley Mall.  Mrs. Claus will visit with children at Santa’s holiday home.
