Christmas dance

The Country Western Dance Association will hold line dancing for singles and couples Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Maugansville Ruritan Building on Maugans Avenue. The dance is a potluck Christmas party.

It is open to the public. Tickets cost $5 for members and $7 for nonmembers.

Tree sale continues

The Maugansville Ruritan Club’s Christmas tree lot is open at the old Sears Automotive lot at Long Meadow Shopping Center, at the corner of Northern Avenue and Hamilton Boulevard.

This is the 48th year that the Ruritans have sold trees.

The lot is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. The last day of the sale will be Friday, Dec. 21.


The club will help customers select a tree, then shake, trim and load it on their vehicle. The club offers a variety of trees, such as Douglass Fir, Scotch, White Pine, Concolor, Fraser Fir, Blue Spruce and all in different sizes. Larger sizes can be ordered. Roping and wreathes are also available. Proceeds help support the many projects the Ruritan Club sponsors.

Christmas concert

The Adult Choir and A.C.T.S. Drama Ministry at Maugansville Bible Brethern Church will host a Christmas program titled “The Love of God at Christmas” Sunday, Dec. 16, at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. 

Families are invited to enjoy the free Christmas program. Goodwill offerings will be accepted.

Cookie walk

Trinity United Church of Christ “on the square” in State Line, Pa., will hold its annual cookie walk Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. 

A variety of holiday favorites will be available to mix and match to create a Christmas cookie tray. 

The cookies cost $4.50 per mixed dozen.

Secret Santa shop

The Secret Santa shop, sponsored by Maugansville Elementary Afterschool Center, will be open to the community Monday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the school gym and Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

Attendees do not have to attend Maugansville Elementary to shop at the Secret Santa Shop. Shopping is “child friendly.” There will be volunteer parents to assist with shopping.

Community band

The Williamsport Community Band will hold its 15th annual Christmas concert at  two locations. 

On Sunday at 7 p.m., the band will perform at Tri-State Fellowship, 13153 Cearfoss Pike in Hagerstown. 

The concert will be repeated Sunday, Dec. 16, at 3 p.m. at St. James Brethren Church, 17718 Lappans Road in St. James. 

The band has won many area awards.

The concerts are free and open to all.

Dinner to benefit humane society

The Eagles Club of Hagerstown will hold an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County. 

The event was organized by Gregory Rohrer and will feature spaghetti with meatballs, salad, garlic bread and applesauce. Cakes will be served for dessert. 

Tickets cost $7.50 and can be purchased daily from 1 to 9 p.m. at the Eagles Club at 18 N. Locust St. in Hagerstown. 

Tickets will also be available at the door.

In addition, tickets will be available today at the animal shelter from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
