A 20-year-old Hagerstown man was in jail Thursday on $150,000 bond after being charged with child pornography offenses, according to Washington County District Court records.

Brandon Scott Martz, of 11240 Grouse Lane, is charged with two counts of promoting or distributing child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography, court records said. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Jan. 2, court records said.

The Maryland State Police Computer Crimes unit started an investigation Dec. 28, 2011, into an Internet address offering files of child pornography through a file-sharing network, according to the application for statement of charges. A state police trooper was able to download two files depicting boys, some as young as 6 years of age, engaging in sexual activity, the document said.

In January, the trooper downloaded two more files of child pornography from the same Internet address, the charging document said. Police later obtained a court order for the Internet address and a search warrant for the address of the subscriber, the document said.

A trooper executed the search warrant in March, during which time Martz was interviewed and a laptop computer was seized, the charging document said. A forensic search of the computer turned up another file with child pornography and several more with file names indicative of child pornography, the document said.

The charges against Martz were filed Wednesday, court records said.
