Concert Dec. 15 at Haven Lutheran Church

The sounds of the Christmas season will ring out with the St. James Brass Quintet and the Haven Lutheran Church Senior Choir on Saturday, Dec. 15, beginning at 5 p.m.

The yearly concert will include Christmas carols and old-time favorites.

As attendees leave the concert, they will be treated to the warm glow of the luminarias at Rest Haven Cemetery next door.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Light refreshments will be served following the concert.

Haven Lutheran is at 1035 Haven Road in Hagerstown.

TOPS 0446

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0446 had 14 TOPS members and three KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) members weigh in at its last meeting.

The thinner winner of the week was Marie E.  George M. and Mary M. also had losses. Judy H. won the ha-ha prize. 

A report on the Save the Turkey contest showed team No. 2 ahead by 75 pounds. Teams need to have a net loss of 12 pounds to Save the Turkey and win the contest.  

The chapter meets Wednesdays at Shiloh United Methodist Church on Shiloh Church Road in Hagerstown Weigh-in is from 8:30 to 9:20 a.m. and the meeting is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Breakfast with Santa

Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion on Northern Avenue in Hagerstown will host Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 11 a.m.

The event is open to the public. The pancake breakfast costs $3 for those 14 and older and is free for those 13 and younger.


Toys for Tots

Allegany Dental Care, at 19418 Leitersburg Pike, is an official dropoff location for the Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots program.

Bring new, unwrapped gifts to the office Monday through  Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Losses totaled 26 3/4 pounds for the week for TOPS Chapter 0077. 

The best TOPS losers were JoAnn S. and Emma Jean Robertson. 

The best KOPS losers were Darla Hartley and Kathy Renner. 

The no-no snack for the week is cake. 

Team No. 1, the Topsy Girls, won the weekly weight-loss challenge with a 7 1/2-pound loss. 

Hartley won the monthly get-r-done prize for KOPS and JoAnn S. won for TOPS. Rose Mary Gill presented the program on “Goals — Don’t Give Up.” She said to like yourself and learn to pick yourself up. She said practice mind over matter and don’t have unrealistic expectations. 

The hats, gloves and scarves collection ends today. 

The Dec. 24 and 31 meetings will be limited to weigh-ins only from 7 to 9 a.m.

The group meets Monday mornings at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave.
