No one was injured Monday morning when a Washington County Public Schools bus carrying 40 students was rear-ended by a passenger car at the intersection of Eastern and Jefferson boulevards, authorities said.

The accident was reported at about 8:05 a.m., a Washington County Emergency Services supervisor said.

According to Deputy 1st Class R. Socks of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, a Saturn sedan rear-ended the bus, which was taking the students to Pangborn Elementary School.

A second bus was dispatched to the accident scene to pick up the students and take them to school, Washington County Public Schools spokesman Richard Wright said.

The Longmeadow Volunteer Fire Co. and Maryland State Police were also at the scene of the accident.

One lane of Eastern Boulevard between Security Road and Jefferson Boulevard was closed for about 40 minutes after the crash.  The road reopened at about 8:45 a.m.

The Saturn and the school bus were still at the accident scene at 8:45 a.m.
