New youth basketball league forming

A youth basketball league is forming for children in Washington County in grades four through six.  

Registration will be held at St. James Brethren Church, 17718 Lappans Road, tonight, Monday and Tuesday at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. each night.

All games and practices will be held Mondays or Tuesdays at the church.

All players will make a team. All registrants must bring a copy of their birth certificate.

Movie night

Bridge of Life Church, 14 S. Potomac St., will hold movie night Saturday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m.

The movie is free.

Food sale


Second Christian Church, 65 W. North Ave. in Hagerstown, will host a food sale and Christmas bazaar Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

The menu includes choices of fried chicken, potato salad and greens; fried fish, macaroni and cheese, baked beans and greens; or barbecue ribs, macaroni and cheese and green beans, with a roll with each meal.

The meal costs $8, or you can choose a lasagna dinner with garlic bread and salad for $7. All meals include cake or pie and soda.

At the same time, a Christmas bazaar will be sponsored by the ushers group.

Canine games night

The next canine games night at the Peaceable Paws dog training center in Fairplay will be Friday, Dec. 14, from 7 to 9 p.m.

The event costs $5 per dog. Proceeds go to an animal charity.

Shopping extravaganza

The Christmas Shopping Extravaganza will be Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Hager Hall Conference Center Ballroom, 901 Dual Highway in Hagerstown.

The event will include several vendors who were also at the recent Kris Kringle Holiday Craft Show. There will be clearance and sale items available.

Admission is free. The ballroom is behind Barefoot Bernie’s restaurant.
