Mercersburg tree lighting set for Nov. 30

MERCERSBURG, Pa. — The Borough of Mercersburg and Tuscarora Area Chamber of Commerce are hosting the inaugural Mercersburg tree lighting and Santa visit Friday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the square.

Santa will be arriving by fire truck and meeting with children in the former Juliet’s building, while the winner of the coloring contest will light the tree with Mercersburg Mayor Jim Zeger.

Other highlights and activities include:

  • Carols will be sung by the James Buchanan Middle School chorus.
  • Free hot cocoa and cookies from the Buchanan Lioness will be served in the garden of the Irwin House.
  • Free children’s holiday activity books will be passed out by Mercersburg Mennonite Church.
  • Free ornament making for families will be offered by First National Bank of Mercersburg.
  • Flannery’s Restaurant will offer free hot cider and a raffle entry.
  • Re/Max will hand out free balloons,
  • M&T Bank will hand out free candy canes.
  • Hip Hydrangea and The Dressing Room will both host open houses with raffles, treats, and surprises until 8 p.m.

The Parade of Wreaths sponsored by the Tuscarora Area Chamber of Commerce is also new this year. The first 50 local businesses who contacted the chamber received a wreath to decorate. These wreaths are attached to Main Street parking meters to spotlight the businesses and celebrate the season.
