USM-H student council holds community food drive

November 25, 2012

The University System of Maryland at Hagerstown student council recently sponsored a community food drive.

The “Food Fight!” included five universities at USM-H and the USM-H staff.

Each team was provided a decorated box in the lobby for donations.

In the spirit of competition, each box was weighed regularly, and the results were posted on the in-house digital signs and on the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown Facebook page.

The contest began Nov. 5 and ended Nov. 19.

Frostburg State University was the top donor, followed closely by Towson University at USM-H.

However, the real winner was the community, as 273 pounds of nonperishable items were collected and then delivered to Maryland Food Bank, Western Branch, on Nov. 20.

Last year the event collected 225 pounds.

USM-H is a regional higher education center offering 23 programs from six institutions within the University System of Maryland.

The multi-university campus is in downtown Hagerstown. Partner institutions include Coppin State University, Frostburg State University, Salisbury University, Towson University, University of Maryland, College Park and University of Maryland University College.
