HCC men improve to 7-0

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Kervin Rameau had 26 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals to lead unbeaten Hagerstown Community College to a 97-93 victory over Monroe Community College of Rochester, N.Y., in the Jim Brown Classic on Saturday night at HCC.

Antonio Jenifer had 21 points, Donte Thomas had 14 points, 10 assists, six rebounds and six steals, Christian Leach had 12 points, including three 3-pointers, and Jerel Carter had nine points, seven assists and three rebounds for the Hawks (7-0).

Hagerstown will play Monroe College of Bronx, N.Y., today at 6 p.m.


WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Patrick Henry 67, HCC 60

Gabby Comfort scored 12 points for Hagerstown Community College in a loss to Patrick Henry in the Gold’s Tournament at HCC.

Tiffany Wallace had 10 points, Katie Sprecher had seven points and 10 rebounds, Sasha Orr had seven points, four steals and four assists and Tierra Taylor and Miesha Adams had six points each for Hagerstown (1-5).


PREP CROSS COUNTRY

Daigneault 68th in Northeast

BRONX, N.Y. — A pair of St. Maria Goretti runners competed in the seeded boys race Saturday at the Foot Locker Northeast Regional Championships at Van Cortlandt Park.

Luke Daigneault, a senior, finished 68th out of 169 in 17:00.0 on the challenging 3.1-mile course, while Patrick Jones, a junior, was 115th in 17:45.8.

Among Maryland runners, Daigneault was sixth and Jones was ninth, while Catoctin junior David Dorsey, the Class 2A state champion, was fifth (52nd overall) in 16:50.9.

Maryland finished fourth out of nine states in the boys team standings.

Edward Cheserek won in 15:22 for team champion New Jersey.

Zielinski 39th in Southeast

CARY, N.C. — Boonsboro senior Sarah Zielinski finished 39th out of 192 runners in the championship girls race at the Nike Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday.

Zielinski, the Maryland 1A state champ, covered the 3.1-mile course in 18:50.3.

Boonsboro junior Sean Snyder placed third out of 195 in the open boys race in 16:32.4. Four other Boonsboro boys competed in the race. Otto Solberg was 61st (17:49.1), Nick Zielinski was 89th (18:07.3), Tom Kersting was 90th (18:08.2) and Randy Lohman was 124th (18:38.0).

In the open girls race, sophomore Ella Hawkins finished 14th out of 109 in 20:32.3.

Hagerstown Area Youth Basketball League registration

The Hagerstown Area Youth Basketball League will hold registration for players in fourth, fifth and sixth grades on Nov. 29, Nov. 30, Dec. 3 and Dec. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. each day, at St. James Brethren Church, located at 17718 Lappans Rd. in St. James. All registrants must bring copies of their birth certificates.

All players will make a team, and all games and practices will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Hub City Softball League accepting new teams

The Hub City Men’s Slow-Pitch Softball League is currently accepting new teams for the 2013 season. The season runs April to August with a kickoff tournament, approximately 25 regular-season games and a postseason playoff tournament. All games are played at Marty Snook Park.
