Mail Call - Nov. 23

November 22, 2012

“Thanks, Herald-Mail, reporting the Tri-State area about the state of the economy. I hope Washington County and our elected officials in the county, city and the state read that. Why is Franklin County, Berkeley and Jefferson, exceeding us in job creation and development? Especially on these good jobs like the tractor-trailers and trains and everything else. We’re missing the boat here somewhere. Where’s our economic development?”
— Leitersburg

“I have a question I wish someone would answer. It is no doubt something I should know. Please tell me why the day after Thanksgiving is called ‘Black Friday.’ Everyone will be out buying. Seems to me it should be called ‘Good Friday.’”
— Hagerstown

“To the person who wrote in Mail Call on Nov. 15, comparing Benghazi to 9/11: First, the State Department, which answers to the president, received requests from Ambassador Stevens’ office for more security. They also pointed out how dangerous the area had become. The British Embassy and the Red Cross left the area because it was too dangerous. There were more than enough warning signs; not so with 9/11. Get your comparisons correct, if you want to defend your failed president.”
— Clear Spring

“In my 20 years in the Navy, this would have never happened, a president letting four people getting killed in Benghazi, while he’s too busy in Las Vegas, or appearing on ‘The View.’ What kind of president is this? I don’t call him a president. We haven’t had one since 2009. People better start waking up, because that could have been your boys, your son, your husband or your father who could have been killed over there. It makes me mad that nobody’s paying attention to what happened over there, and just letting it go.”
— Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

“How strange that the people in Hancock voted against same-sex marriage, and yet approved of gambling. Both are condemned by the word of God. In fact, read about the sad results of the love of money, in 1 Timothy 6:10, and Proverbs 28:22. Perhaps the Lord looks upon most of the voters in this little town as being religious hypocrites.”
— Hancock

“Every one of you voted for President Obama for the next four years, please read George Michael’s column, ‘What sunk the Romney ship?’ and he explains it a lot of things there’s a lot of people don’t understand and know, and then you will realize where the Christian community and, where we’re coming from. Just God help us for the next four years, and things may get better and people get jobs, and everyone needs to read the column.”
— Hagerstown

“A very special thank you to the kind gentleman who paid for our sub at Freddie’s, Park Lane, when my husband forgot his wallet. We have left money for you at Park Lane, so ask them next time you stop in. Again, it’s so inspiring to know there are thoughtful people like you. Thanks.”
— Hagerstown

“I like to go thrift store shopping. I also do a lot of shopping at the dollar stores. I wouldn’t know what to do without these stores.”
— Hagerstown
