Mail Call - Nov. 22

November 22, 2012

“I have to say that the Hagerstown voters certainly have short memories, if they don’t remember when Penny Nigh was council lady before. We paid the price then, and with her now elected, we’re going to pay the price now.”

— Hagerstown

“I just read George Michael’s editorial on why Mitt Romney lost the election. He forgets the most important part: A majority of American voters do not like the Republican exclusion, rather than inclusion, of people with different ideas.”

 — Waynesboro, Pa.

“A big ‘thumbs up’ to former state senator Don Munson. Don, you know me personally, and I don’t live in the city. Had I, I would have voted for you. Whatever you can do, Don, stop this stadium frivolous folly.”

— Halfway

“Guess who’s not going to President Obama’s White House Christmas party? All of those right-wing talk show hosts aren’t coming, like Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham, Rush Limbaugh, you name them. John McCain won’t be there, I assure you of that. He’s still ... because he lost the election in 2008.”

— Hagerstown

“I travel a lot, and I was in Frederick, Md., today, and I saw where gas is $3.47 a gallon. Why is it higher in Hagerstown and Martinsburg? It is $3.75. Something’s wrong with the system, and I’d just like to have an answer, and maybe somebody in the gas business will see this in Mail Call and give us an answer.”

— Hagerstown

“Since the election is now over, can we please get a break from David Limbaugh and George Michael, and the negative Mail Call artists who are spewing so much negativity and hatred? Can we get a break from that?”

— Hagerstown

“I feel it’s kind of late for that, concerning those people having their tables set up in front of the post office in Greencastle, having a sign that reads, ‘Impeach Obama.’ I feel it’s, like I said, I feel it’s too late for that now, due to the fact that after all, he was voted in again for another term as the president. Why didn’t those people do their campaigning to impeach him long before the election?”

— Greencastle, Pa.

“I take offense to the article by Mr. Michael in Friday’s paper, saying President Obama won because of character assassination. Really? What did the Republicans do, ever since the president’s been sworn in in 2008? Calling him the other, calling him lazy, saying he wasn’t born here. If that’s not character assassination, what is? So nobody’s ever asked a president if he was born in the U.S. or not. So now the shoe’s on the other foot, isn’t it?”

— Hagerstown

“OK, America, congratulations. You think the last four years were bad, oh, you just wait for the next four. It’s going to get real bad, thanks to you, and not voting properly. So I’d say you’d better hunker down, everybody. Austerity is coming. Liberty is gone. I repeat, tyranny has won over liberty. Good luck, and God help us.”

— Sharpsburg

“In recent days we’ve heard retail employees who are planning to call in sick or walk out, because they are being told their stores are opening as early as 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving evening and not midnight, for Black Friday. What about us grocery store employees? We’re open all day on Thanksgiving, some open until 6 p.m. We have no time to cook and no time to enjoy with our families. What happened to the days when we were all closed on Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas?”

— Hagerstown
