Chambersburg embraces 11/30 marketing campaign

November 22, 2012

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — If you’ve seen 11/30 magnets on cars in Franklin County, you might wonder what the numbers mean. The numbers represent Routes 11 and 30, two historic highways that intersect in the heart of Chambersburg.

Downtown leaders are branding Chambersburg as the Crossroads of the Country because of its unique location at the intersection of these two major highways, and they are scheduling numerous events on Nov. 30 (11/30) to spread awareness of the 11/30 concept, first introduced by Chambersburg businessman Michael Kalathas, according to a news release from the Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce.

The kickoff event on 11/30 will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Memorial Square. SNAP Fitness of Chambersburg will lead exercises for 11 minutes and 30 seconds.

“By scheduling fun events and promotions on 11/30, we believe we will attract people to downtown Chambersburg and start an effective marketing campaign that centers on Chambersburg’s unique geographic location,” Noel Purdy, president of Downtown Chambersburg Inc., an affiliate of the Chambersburg chamber, said in the release.

Downtown businesses are joining in the spirit of the day with various specials. Giveaways will be another attraction at various businesses.

In addition, a radio remote with 101.5 BobRocks will be on Memorial Square at mid-day, and musicians will play in more than a dozen downtown stores and restaurants from 5 to 8 p.m. For those who want to show off their own talent, a karaoke station will be at Here’s Looking at You, 123 S. Main St.

The 11/30 shirts are available at the Chambersburg Heritage Center, 100 Lincoln Way East, as are Route 30 shirts – in time for next year’s centennial celebration of the beginning of the Lincoln Highway (also known as Route 30).
