Blanche M. “Liss” (Overcash) Shifler, 77, of Boonsboro, Md., passed away Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, Md.

Born Dec. 17, 1934, in Mercersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Edgar R. and Blanche (Crouse) Overcash.

Her husband, Charles T. “Tim” Shifler, preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 2006.

Liss was a 1952 graduate of James Buchanan High School in Mercersburg.

Along with her husband, Liss owned, operated and did the bookkeeping for Hub City Liquors and Hub City Coin Op, located in Hagerstown for more than 30 years.

Liss was the former president and treasurer of the Chapelwood Garden Club that met at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Boonsboro.

She is survived by her daughter, Karin Shifler-Hartman of Boonsboro; her two sons, Michael Shifler and his wife, Beth, of Boonsboro, and Steven Shifler of Hagerstown; two sisters, Anna Welch and Betty Stenger; a brother, Edgar Overcash Jr.; four grandchildren, Hannah Hartman, and Amanda, Ryan and Alex Shifler; and her three great-grandchildren, Grant Wilhide, Jackson Shifler and Shaylynn Beauford. She is also survived by her canine companion, Daisy.


In addition to her parents and husband, Liss was preceded in death by two sisters, Esta Bloyer and Helen Eversole-Staley; and her daughter-in-law, Deborah Shifler.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. Pastor Walt Roberts will officiate. Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at the funeral home.
