Crane removes debris at Md. 68 bridge near Williamsport

November 18, 2012

WILLIAMSPORT — This past weekend, a large crane removed several large trees and other debris that piled up at the Md. 68 bridge over Conococheague Creek near Williamsport.

Much of the debris was the result of Superstorm Sandy, which occurred about three weeks earlier.

The state closed the stone arch bridge over the creek for several hours Saturday and Sunday so the crane could be positioned to reach the debris.

Williamsport resident Calvin Foxwell, 65, was among the onlookers over the weekend. He also saw the creek rise during Superstorm Sandy and saw the water quickly recede after the rain ceased, he said.

State highway workers transported the large tree sections to a state highway lot off Greencastle Pike south of Huyetts Crossroads.
