A. Marie Conrad passed peacefully into the presence of her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on Nov. 15, 2012, under the loving care of Hospice of the Panhandle, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law.

Marie was born Feb. 15, 1918, in Boonsboro, Md., the middle daughter of the late Verda Long Wilhide and Carl M. Wilhide.

As a child, her life was full of adventure. She loved telling stories about playing on the streets of Boonsboro and on the farm and orchard of her grandparents. As a teen, Marie developed a love of sports, playing basketball every chance she got. Her summers were spent at the river. After high school, she attended Thompson Business College in York, Pa.  On June 29, 1940, she married Charles Conrad. They moved to Charles Town, W.Va., where they were the owners and operators of Jefferson Tobacco Co. They were married 62 years before Charles passed away in 2003. Marie was very active in church work for many years, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Charles Town.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela and son-in-law, Walter Judy of Charles Town; her grandson, Chadd and his wife, Ann Kable, of Baxter, Tenn.; her granddaughter, Tonia and her husband, Carl Jenkins, of Ranson, W.Va.; two sisters, Mildred Griffith of Boonsboro and Jo Adams of New Oxford, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at the home of Pam and Walter Judy on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Interment will be private.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012 in the fellowship hall of Charles Town Baptist Church, 211 E. Congress St., Charles Town.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cross Point Church, P.O. Box 640, Charles Town, WV 25411; Charles Town Baptist Church, 211 E. Congress St., Charles Town, WV 25414; or to Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25403.
