Violinist Jorge performs at Hagerstown church

November 10, 2012

Violinist Jaime Jorge performed Saturday at the Hagerstown Seventh-day Adventist Church on Robinwood Drive.

Standing in front of signs that said “Unveiling Hope,” Jorge played music and talked about his faith in God.

Jorge told the audience that his family left Cuba in 1980, when he was 10 years old.

According to a biography on his website, he “dreamed of becoming a missionary doctor” and was accepted at the University of Illinois Medical School.

But in his second year, “Jaime felt the Lord’s call to leave medical school for a life of service dedicated to music ministry,” his website says.

Twenty years after his family left Cuba, he went back to his homeland as part of a venture with La Voz de la Esperanza, a ministry in California.

Jorge said thousands of people in Cuba have been baptized and received bibles as part of an outreach effort.
