5 Rams earn All-WVIAC honors

PRINCETON, W.Va. — Five Shepherd University players were named to the 2012 All-WVIAC team Friday.

Senior forward Shane Lowery and senior defender Robel Desta were first-team selections, while junior midfielder/forward Kevin Doyle, junior midfielder Griffin Frazier and freshman defender Chris Mashinski (LaPlata, MD/North Point) earned honorable mention accolades.

Lowery, a Boonsboro graduate, started in all 19 games for the Rams, who finished 9-9-1 (5-4 WVIAC). He led the team in goals (nine), scoring (21 points) and tied for the team lead in game-winning goals with three. His three assists were second on the team.


Shepherd 3, Davis & Elkins 0

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Kasey Mercier had 12 kills and 16 digs for Shepherd in a 25-17, 25-15, 25-13 victory over Davis & Elkins (4-20, 2-11).

Sara Michael had 33 assists and 11 digs and Lauren Gardner added seven digs for the Rams (10-16, 6-7).

Hagerstown Soccer Club

The Hagerstown Soccer Club will hold spring team assessments and registration Saturday at 10 a.m., Sunday at 2 p.m., Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. and Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. at its complex at 13317 Cearfoss Pike in Hagerstown.

They’re open to boys and girls ages 8 to 19 — born between Aug. 1, 1993 and July 31, 2004 — for U10 through U19.

Teams will participate in FCYSL, BBSL and WAGSL.
