Mary Ellen Nails, 68, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, Pa., after a brief illness.

Born May 5, 1944, at home in Garfield, Md., she was the third of seven children of the late William Harvey Lewis and the late Elva May (Fogle) Lewis. She lived the majority of her life in the Frederick, Md., area.

She is survived by four children, Cheryl Marshall and husband, Charles, of Waynesboro, Pa., Cindy Tibbs and husband, Gerald, of Waynesboro, Greg Nails of Knoxville, Md., and Chris Nails of Goldsboro, N.C. Her nine grandchildren, Jordan, Morgan, Jessica, Stephanie, Dewayne, Tori, Daniel, Bethany and Brittany, were a source of pride, joy and entertainment. She will also be missed dearly by sisters, Julia Summers, Betty Bussard, Sue Mann and Helen Heerd; brother, Bill Lewis; numerous nieces and nephews; and very special friend, Robin Clingan.

She was predeceased by her loving partner of 35 years, Gerald Wenner; husband, Fulton Nails, in 1973; and sister, Grace Williams.

Mary Ellen was a graduate of Frederick High School, class of 1962. She was a member of The Salvation Army Corps, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was an incredible cook, had a passion for feeding others and loved baking, and her family will remember years of wonderful holiday dinners.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at 3 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 524 George St., Hagerstown, Md. Following the service, the family invites all friends and family to join them for an evening meal.
