Georgetta Burdette Kelley, 88, passed away peacefully Nov. 4, 2012, at Sunrise Assisted Living of Leesburg, Va.

Georgetta was born May 22, 1924, on the family farm in Long Corner, Md., where she grew up strong, with nine siblings. She was an independent leading woman of her generation, working for the U.S. Postal Service in Washington, D.C., where she rose to become a supervisory procurement officer, purchasing vehicle fleets and opening new postal offices across the country. Georgetta retired in the mid-1970s to become more actively involved in the upbringing of her two grandsons, an activity which she referred to as "her cause." Following retirement from public service, she pursued real estate in Kensington, Md., and established a business in antique sales called "Epitome of Chattels." She raised her grandsons, volunteered at their schools and taught them by example the values of honesty, punctuality, strong character and living true to one's word.

Georgetta was predeceased by her husband, Paul Kelley; and her only child, Kathy Hackley.

She is survived by sisters, Betty Reed and Laura Browning; brother, Jack Burdette; grandson, Paul Hackley and wife, Nadine, of Leesburg; grandson, Grant Hackley and wife, Dana, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and six great-grandchildren, Bailey, Molly, Josie and Jamie Hackley of Leesburg, and Hudson and Cole Hackley of Pittsburgh.

Memorial services will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1415 West 7th St., Frederick, Md., at 11 a.m. on Nov. 16. All are welcome, punctually.
