Murphy to speak at library

Local author Robin Murphy will discuss an author platform and book marketing through social media Thursday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. at Sharpsburg Library.

Murphy will also give the audience an overview of her latest published book, “Secret of the Big Easy.”

Festival Friday at school

Sharpsburg Elementary will host an evening of ice cream, crafts and a cartoon Friday during the fall harvest festival and movie night.

It will be a family-oriented event with pumpkins to decorate, donated by the PTA. 

The Washington County Public Schools’ Star Lab will be at the school Monday and Friday, Nov. 16.

Star Lab is a giant inflatable dome that can hold more than 30 students. It is used to present lessons such as “Predicting the Phases of the Moon,” “Plotting the Path of a Hurricane” and “Plate Tectonics.”


The annual book fair will be Nov. 26 to 30, open every evening after school. For the first time, parents can shop and order books at the online school store.

The school will hold “Grandfriends Day” Tuesday, Nov. 27.

Potpie dinner set

District 12 Ruritan, at the corner of Manor Church and Breathedsville roads in Fairplay, will hold an all-you-can-eat potpie dinner Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. 

The menu consists of chicken and beef potpie, choice of coleslaw or applesauce, dinner roll, sweet tea and coffee. Desserts will be sold. 

Tickets costs $7 for adults and $3.50 for those younger than 12.

Christmas bazaar planned

Sharpsburg Church of the Brethren will hold a Christmas bazaar Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. at 123 E. Main St.

Soups and a bake sale table will be available, as well as candy, cookies, pumpkin rolls, pies and other items. A white elephant sale, crafts and Christmas crafts will be for sale.

Lunch for veterans set

Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, at 17626 Bakersville Road, will celebrate Veterans Day with a luncheon following Sunday’s 10:30 a.m. church service.

The church community will thank veterans for their service.

Anniversary on agenda as Historical Society meets

The Sharpsburg Historical Society hopes to participate in the town’s 250th birthday anniversary celebration in July 2013.

Members and those interested are invited to attend a meeting and add to the discussion at Town Hall Thursday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m.

The historical society does not plan to coordinate the town’s celebration, but hopes to be part of the recognition.

BHS band says ‘thanks’

The Boonsboro High School Band thanks the community for its generous support on Tag Day, which was Oct. 27.

Donations from Tag Day will help send the band to the U.S. Band National Competition at MetLife (Giants) Stadium in the Meadowlands, N.J., on Sunday.
