The Hagerstown High School Class of 1944 held its 68-year reunion Sept. 29 at Nick’s Airport Inn. There were 24 classmates on hand and 12 guests.

Joe Palkovitz welcomed the class members and their guest, then turned the floor over to Howard Weeks who gave the invocation.

A memorial remembrance was held in honor of deceased class members. This was followed by a roll call of all members and guests present. There was unanimous agreement to return to Nick’s Airport Inn for the 69th reunion, which will be held Sept. 28, 2013.

Mary Denniston Pike, attending from Lynn Haven, Fla., was awarded a piece of brick and mortar salvaged from the Hagerstown High School building, which was demolished in the 1960s, for traveling the greatest distance to attend the reunion.

Pictures were taken by Dot Dusenberry, who acted as the class’s official photographer.

Virginia Messersmith Strine made a colorful collage which was inserted in the programs and placed at each table setting.

The reunion committee is made up of Pete Callas, Donald R. Dayhoff, Mildred Goetz Wilson, Virginia Messersmith Strine, Joe Palkovitz, Alice Lavada Snyder Myers and Mary L. Varner Rosborough.
