Boonsboro’s Cronise earns all-state honorable mention

Boonsboro senior defender Emily Cronise was the only Washington County girls player selected for the Maryland Association of Coaches of Soccer all-state team. She was an honorable mention.

Cronise helped lead the county-champion Warriors to an 8-4-4 season, which included 10 shutouts.


Burrs one of three Mont Alto champs

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — North Hagerstown graduate Kenneth Burrs was one of three Penn State Mont Alto freshmen who won titles at Virginia Beach Nationals over the weekend.

Burrs went 2-0 with a pair of decisions to win at 174 pounds, while Tyler Warner, a Waynesboro graduate, went 4-0 with three pins to win at 141, and Danny May went 3-0 with two pins to win at 125.

Also for Mont Alto, Alec Warner was the runner-up at 165, Nathaniel Proce, a Boonsboro graduate, placed third at 133, Taylor Creek finished fifth at 125, and Chase Scott (157), a Smithsburg graduate, and Josh Havens (heavyweight) each finished sixth.

Mont Alto will host Penn State Greater Allegheny for its first home match in 35 years on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
