1. Rockin' in the free world

Evolution Rock School's 2012 fall concert will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Academy Theater, 58 E. Washington St., Hagerstown. Seven bands will perform. A guitar and bass guitar will be raffled off to benefit the Rock School Scholarship Fund. $7.50. Call 240-285-3526 or email

2. Happy birthday, Shepherdstown

Shepherdstown 250th anniversary celebration will concludes this weekend. Friday, Nov. 9's highlights include: community potluck party at Community Club with music by Sacred Groove, 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 10 highlights include: dedication of a plaque to the town's founder, Thomas Shepherd, at the Shepherd family graveyard on New Street; open house at Thomas Shepherd Grist Mill, High Street, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 11 highlights include: model steam engine demonstration for children and parents at Entler Hotel, 1 p.m.; Coming Home Parade, German Street, 3 p.m.; closing ceremony in front of McMurran Hall, 4 p.m.; Coming Home Soup Fest at various sites in the town, 5 to 7 p.m.; After the Soups open house with music and refreshments at the town's historic train station, 7 to 9 p.m. Activities are free, but some Soup Fest locations will charge a small fee or accept donations. 3. Afternoon of greens

As part of the Greens Show and Afterglow event, David Shover will present a floral design show and workshop at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at  the Women's Club, 31 S. Prospect St., Hagerstown. Door prizes and refreshments. Sponsored by Crossroads Garden Club. $12. Call 301-739-0870.

4. Santa Claus is coming to town

Santa will arrive by train to his holiday home in Valley Mall junction at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Center Court at Valley Mall, 17301 Valley Mall Road, Halfway.

5. It's a 'Cowboy Christmas'

Cowboy Christmas Show opens Friday, Nov. 9, at Antietam Recreation, 9745 Garis Shop Road, Hagerstown. Activities, vocalists and dancers, a drama featuring the Christian message of Christmas, and Andy Rotz demonstrating rope-twirling, knife-throwing and gun spinning with his horse, Idja. 6 to 9:45 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 10; 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14.
