R. Benjamin Jones reception and show to be held at Kepler Center

November 03, 2012

The Hagerstown Community College Foundation Inc., will host a reception, show, and sale of paintings by R. Benjamin Jones on Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Kepler Center on HCC’s main campus.

This year’s show will once again feature Jones’ renowned portraits, landscapes, still-lifes and animal paintings. A portion of the proceeds will benefit HCC and its students.

“We’ve always enjoyed these shows,” said artist R. Benjamin Jones, referring to he and his wife, Rebecca. “This is the 12th year we’ve had the show at the college, and what makes this year so special is the new and wonderful improvements that have been made to the Kepler Center. We are pleased to be able to have our paintings hung in this extraordinary setting, and we hope that the sales from this show will continue to contribute to the school’s scholarship program.”

This event is free and open to the public. Event times are 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Attendees may purchase raffle tickets to win an original R. Benjamin Jones painting. The winner, whose name will be drawn at the Saturday show, does not need to be present to win. A variety of note cards featuring paintings by the artist will also be sold.

Maryland artist R. Benjamin Jones is an accomplished painter who enjoys creating still-life, landscape, and portrait images of everyday life from his native Maryland; Lancaster County, Pa.; New England; and other places he has visited. He seeks to portray the gentle beauty of the world in his paintings of delicate flowers, New England streets and harbors, Amish faces and farm animals. He studied at the Maryland Institute of Fine Arts in Baltimore, the University of Maryland and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, and his works have been displayed in many galleries, private collections and commercial businesses throughout the U.S.
