CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — A 30-year-old man who fatally struck a motorcyclist while driving and fled the scene of the crash March 7 was sentenced this week to two years in a state prison.

Leon C. Deardorff Jr. was sentenced by Judge Douglas Herman in the Franklin County (Pa.) Court of Common Pleas. He received credit for about five months already served in jail, according to online court records.

Deardorff, who is listed in court records as being from Greencastle, Pa., pleaded guilty to charges of homicide by vehicle and driving on a suspended license.

Keith Lee Monninger, 37, of Greencastle, died when the motorcycle he was operating was involved in the collision with a box truck driven by Deardorff at the intersection of U.S. 11 and Social Island Road, police said.

Deardorff’s license had been suspended related to a drunken-driving charge, police said.

Police found the 2002 Isuzu box truck on Cameron Street in Harrisburg, Pa., a day after the crash.
