October 31, 2012

Maryland State Police barracks across the state have been ordered to deploy extra patrols this week to specifically look for and remove dangerous and impaired drivers from the roads during Halloween season, according to a state police news release.

State police re-publicized the effort Halloween morning.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 41 percent of all highway fatalities nationwide during the 2010 Halloween period involved a driver or motorcycle rider with a blood-alcohol level of .08 or higher, the release states.

The legal limit is .08.

Trick-or-treat is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Halloween night in Hagerstown, Smithsburg and Williamsport.
