Richard Leroy Spangler, 84, of Wolfsville, Md., died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at his home.

Born July 18, 1928, in Middleburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Howard W. and Clara I. Burger Spangler.

Richard was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Wolfsville, Elks Lodge 378 in Hagerstown, Wolfsville Ruritan Club and South Mountain Rod and Gun Club in Smithsburg; and a charter member of the Wolfsville Volunteer Fire Co.

He retired from Pangborn Corp. in Hagerstown after many years of service as a welder. Richard was very proud to have been chosen to be a welder on the Alaska Pipeline.

Richard is survived by his wife, Martha Grace Leatherman Spangler; three children, Barbara Webb and husband, Dannie, of Fayetteville, Pa., and Karen Bowyer and husband, Jim, and Paul Spangler and wife, Darlene, all of Wolfsville; five grandchildren, Laura Clem, Andrea Haugh, Shawn Bowyer, Jason Bowyer and Whitney Spangler; four great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Connor Clem, and Brett and Elysabeth Haugh; two brothers, Ray Spangler and Bill Spangler and wife, Ruth; and one sister, Mary Fahrney.

Richard was preceded in death by two brothers, Guy Spangler and Paul Spangler.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wolfsville, with Pastor David Howell officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining churchRichard L. Spangler, 84
