Betty Marie (Vores) Horton, 82, of Hagerstown, Md., formerly of St. Thomas, Pa., passed away Oct. 26, 2012, at Julia Manor in Hagerstown.

She was born Jan. 12, 1930, in McConnellsburg, Pa., the daughter of the late Charles and Myrtle (Smith) Vores.

She was the wife of the late John Harold Horton, married on March 21, 1948.

Betty was a devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Betty was a longtime member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in St. Thomas, Pa. She was a charter member of the Fulton County Chapter of the Eastern Star. She volunteered at Chambersburg Hospital and attended the Fort Loudon Senior Activity Center in Fort Loudon, Pa.

She and her late husband, John, enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Whirly Birds. She enjoyed making crafts for friends and family. But her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy.

Betty is survived by two sons, Douglas Horton and his wife, Susan, of Keedysville, Md., and Kent Horton and his wife, Donna, of Newburg, Pa.; four grandchildren, Carrie Horton of Ocean Springs, Miss., Zachery Horton and his wife, Andrea, of Keedysville, Jonathan Horton and his wife, Jessica, of Boonsboro, Md., and A1C Van Horton, stationed at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska; three great-grandchildren, Mia, Macie and Dylan Horton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her three brothers, John, Charles and Rudolph Vores; and one sister, Helen Martin.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home in McConnellsburg, with visitation one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be held at Union Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Lutheran Church of St. Thomas.

Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg, will be handling the arrangements.
