Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down - Oct. 27

October 27, 2012

Thumbs up to Lee Snyder, who is hosting blood drives in memory of his late wife, who died in 2001 from a rare blood disease she had since she was 8 weeks old. The most recent drive, in Kearneysville, W.Va., pushed him past the halfway mark of the 500 units he hopes to collect for the American Red Cross.

Thumbs up to students at Greencastle-Antrim primary and elementary schools who raised $70,000 last week during a jog-a-thon. They exceeded the goal of $50,000, which will fund field trips for every classroom, classroom grants to teachers, assemblies, author visits to the entire school and other purchases for both schools.

Thumbs down to the man who state police allege stole wedding cards from a basket for guest gifts at a reception Saturday in northwestern Pennsylvania. Police haven’t said how much money or what other gifts the cards contained, or whether any of it has been recovered.
