GREENCASTLE, Pa. — Greencastle-Antrim scored less than three minutes into Friday night’s game and pounded rival Waynesboro 49-14 at Kaley Field.

The Blue Devils (4-5, 3-3 Mid-Penn Colonial) rolled up 550 yards in total offense, utilizing seven different rushers and the arm of quarterback Austin Scott.

On the fifth play of the game in Greencastle’s opening possession, Scott rolled to his left and hit Josh Young about 10 yards from the line of scrimmage. Young did the rest of the work to complete a 63-yard touchdown play at the 9:43 mark. Luke Bitner added his first of seven PAT kicks.

Waynesboro (2-7, 1-5) answered immediately with a 60-yard march set up by a 40-yard run by Johnnie Adgers. From the Devils 6, quarterback Aaron Conrad hit Nathan Eisenhauer for the score, and the PAT by Jesse Smith tied the game.

Scott then directed an 80-yard drive that included a 17-yard pass to Chris Eadle. On a fourth-and-9, Scott called his own number to score from 29 yards out with 6:11 to go in the first quarter.

The Blue Devils’ defense held Waynesboro on downs and set forth on another drive from their own 27. A 57-yard run by Tyler Szaflarski put Greencastle in the red zone, and Astin Byers finished the drive with a 1-yard score for a 21-7 lead.

In the first quarter alone, Greencastle had 226 yards rushing.

The game turned a little on Waynesboro’s next possession, as the Indians moved from their 29 to the Greencastle 35 behind the running of Adgers.

However, the swift senior back injured his left knee on the first play of the second quarter — a 5-yard run that gave him 1,001 yards for the season — and left the game for good.

Szaflarski intercepted a Conrad pass to end Waynesboro’s next possession on the 30. The Blue Devils then had their first of three touchdowns nullified by penalties on the night.

Greencastle again stopped the Indians on downs, then needed only one play to increase its lead when Byers bolted through the line for a 54-yard score and a 35-7 lead with 1:13 left in the first half.

Waynesboro kept the clock from running continuously in the third quarter when Ben Petrie hauled in a 30-yard touchdown pass from Conrad near the end of the period.

Greencastle owned a final quarter marred by penalties, as the Blue Devils had two more scores nullified. They eventually tacked on a pair of scores — a 2-yard run by Matt Montedoro and a 35-yard pass from Scott to Joey Zola.

Greencastle was called for 110 yards in penalties, while Waynesboro had 85 penalty yards in the game.

The Blue Devils had 366 yards rushing, as Scott ran for 99, Montedoro for 63, Byers for 57 and Young for 50. Scott hit 8 of 11 passes for 184 yards.

Adgers had 75 yards rushing before the inury, and Waynesboro had 111 total rushing yards. Conrad was 7 of 21 for 82 yards and three interceptions.

Greencastle now leads the rivalry series, 14-9-1.
