Hubs girls win playoff game

GIRLS SOCCER

Leah Peterson and Olivia Balog each scored a goal as North Hagerstown defeated Albert Einstein 2-0 on Thursday in the first round of the Maryland Class 3A West playoffs.

Abby Singer and Anna Scheck each had an assist and  Logan Keith had four saves for the Hubs (4-9-1).

North will play at Damascus in the quarterfinals on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Saint James 3, Goretti 2

ST. JAMES — Taylor Blenckstone scored two goals to lead Saint James on Wednesday in a win over St. Maria Goretti (4-14-4).

Leanne Ludwick had a goal, Katherine Pennington added an assist and Nikkie Jenkinson made four saves for the Saints (4-8-1).



BOYS SOCCER

Damascus 5, South Hagerstown 0

DAMASCUS, Md. — The Rebels were eliminated in the first round of the Maryland Class 3A West tournament.

Joe Rohr made 12 saves for South (1-13-1).

Mercersburg Academy 3, St. Maria Goretti 0

MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Mercersburg Academy captured the Independent-Parochial School League title on Wednesday.

Bruno Marangoni, David Coly and Jack Flanagan each scored a goal for the Blue Storm (12-2-1).

Drew Katrina made nine saves for the Gaels (10-9-2) in their season finalé.



PREP VOLLEYBALL

Williamsport 3, Century 0

SYKESVILLE, Md. — Emily Taylor had 32 assists to lead Williamsport in a 25-12, 25-22, 25-14 sweep of Century to end the regular season.

Stacey Christy had 13 kills and five blocks, Lindsey Mowbray had eight kills, Haley Wolff had six kills, Courtney Malott had five kills and 21 digs, and Karli Grimes added four kills for the Wildcats (14-1).

JV: Williamsport, 2-1.

Clear Spring 3, Hancock 0

HANCOCK — Kristen Mellott had nine kills and three blocks to lead Clear Spring in a 25-16, 25-9, 25-23 sweep of Hancock.

Sarah Blickenstaff had five aces and nine digs, Sarah Elwood had seven kills and eight digs, Jessica Long had 23 assists and 13 digs, Sam Michael had 11 digs, Kyleigh Stottlemyer had seven kills and Olivia Rowe added six kills and three blocks for the Blazers (6-7).

Emily Harvey had six aces, two kills, three blocks and seven digs, Sara Wagner had five kills, three blocks and three digs, Kara McKinley had four kills, two blocks and six assists, and Lindsay Flowers added five digs for the Panthers (7-8).

JV: Clear Spring, 2-0.

FSK 3, Boonsboro 1

FREDERICK, Md. — Shelby Griffith had four kills, 13 assists and 10 digs for Boonsboro in a 25-16, 19-25, 25-11, 25-10 loss to Francis Scott Key.

Sarah Anderson had seven kills, Taylor Williams had five kills, Leighann Cowden had four kills, Maggie Sullivan had four kills and three blocks, Shelby Wallace had seven assists and 10 digs, Natalie Reeder had 19 digs and Skyler Casto added nine digs for the Warriors (7-6).

JV: Boonsboro, 2-1.

Mercersburg 3, Goretti 1

MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Elise Robbins had 11 kills, 11 aces and 15 assists as Mercersburg Academy defeated St. Maria Goretti 23-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-10 in the IPSL third-place match on Thursday.

Melody Gomez had 15 kills and five aces, Vivi Hyacinthe had six kills and MacKenzie Brink added four kills and two blocks for the Blue Storm (8-6).



COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL

HCC 3, Northern Virginia 0

ANNANDALE, Va. — Emmalyn Stahl had 16 kills and 16 digs to lead Hagerstown to a 25-21, 25-21, 25-23 sweep.

Callie Butts had 10 kills, Tiffany Rohrer had 18 digs and Victoria Broadwater added 15 digs for the Hawks (18-3).



MEN’S SOCCER

Shepherd 6, Ohio Valley 0

VIENNA, W.Va. — Freshman Bryce Fugitt scored three goals and assisted on another to lead Shepherd University over Ohio Valley (0-16, 0-9) in the West Virginia Conference.

The Rams (8-8-1, 5-4) also got goals from senior Shane Lowery — a Boonsboro graduate — junior William Brown and freshman Connor Martin. Junior Abel Setegn, sophomore Ricky Johnson and freshman Chris Mashinski each had an assist.



WOMEN’S SOCCER

Shepherd 1, Ohio Valley 0

VIENNA, W.Va. — Junior forward Morgan Gabriel scored the game’s only goal on an assist from sophomore midfielder Kasey Canterbury in the 20th minute to lift Shepherd University over Ohio Valley (2-16, 1-10) in the West Virginia Conference

Shepherd (7-7-3, 5-3-2) had a 17-7 advantage in shots and a 6-0 edge in corner kicks. Junior Elizabeth Wise made three saves for the shutout.
