MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A 56-year-old Hedgesville, W.Va., man is accused of sexually abusing and assaulting an 11-year-old girl last month, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.

Michael Douglas Brown, of 192 Butterfly Lane, was arraigned by Magistrate Sandra L. Miller on a total of four felony and misdemeanor counts of sexual abuse and assault, according to court documents.

Brown was being held Thursday night at Eastern Regional Jail on an $85,000 bond, according to court and jail records.

West Virginia State Police Cpl. J.B. Flanigan said in a complaint filed in magistrate court that Brown denied having sexual contact with the victim, according to court documents.

When questioned about the alleged sexual contact, Flanigan said Brown responded that he was a substitute school bus driver in Maryland and was “always on the lookout for people like that, why would I risk my job,” according to the officer’s complaint.
