Powell to speak to Confederate Veterans

John Powell will speak on Confederate Gen. Jubal Early and Harpers Ferry in 1864 to the Battle of Sharpsburg Camp 1582, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. at the Mumma Farmhouse at Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg.

Whitehair to present book

Author C.W. Whitehair will present his book, “Gettysburg: The Field of Glory,” in a first-person drama at the Sharpsburg Library Thursday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. 

Whitehair will dress as Pvt. Jonathan Russell, the main character in his book, and will describe Pickett’s Charge through the eyes of the men who participated in the historical battle.

Fire company to hold bingo

The Potomac Valley Fire Co. in Dargan will hold a basket bingo at the fire hall Saturday.

Doors open at 11 a.m. and bingo starts at 1 p.m.

Tickets cost $15 for a nine-pack. Extra packs and specials will be available. The kitchen will be open.


Keedysville Trick or Treat

The town of Keedysville will hold trick-or-treat night Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. Turn on porch lights to participate.

BHS Band to hold TAG day

The Boonsboro Marching Band will hold its annual TAG Day fundraiser Saturday when band students in uniform will be going door-to-door between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to ask for donations to support the band.

Farm plans turkey tasting

Corner Oaks Farms will host a turkey tasting Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center’s multi-purpose building, 7313 Sharpsburg Pike.

Corner Oaks Farms will feature bite-sized samples of two varieties of roasted turkey, including the broad breasted white and broad breasted bronze.

Pork and lamb will also be available for tasting and ordering. It costs $2 per person to attend. RSVPs are requested in advance to attend the event.

St. James to hold bingo

St. James Catholic Church in Boonsboro will hold a Thirty-One Bag and Longaberger basket bingo Sunday, Nov. 4, at St. Joseph’s Riggie Hall at 17630 Virginia Ave. in Halfway.

Doors open at 12:30 and bingo begins at 2 p.m.

There will be 20 games, three specials, silent auction, raffles and door prizes. Concessions will be available for purchase.

Tickets cost $20 in advance or $25 at the door.
